Desk Yoga? It Might be the Relaxing Activity You Need to Make it Through Your Day!

Long hours spent sitting at your desk can be hard on your body. If you’ve noticed yourself with a stiff back, neck or hips, you’re among the many with aches and pains caused by too much time in the same position. But did you know yoga can help? Sure—there’s not much time at the office to roll out your yoga mat and practice your sun salutations. But you can do some easy poses right at your desk to help relieve tension in your upper body, relax and breathe a little easier.

Four Yoga Posa to Try at Work

Just check out these tips from a leading provider of jobs in Gallatin, TN—Wood Personnel:

Standing Thigh Stretch

You’re probably familiar with this stretch if you’ve ever taken a class at the gym. You can add a little to it to help improve your balance and stretch your back. Stand in front of or next to your desk with your feet hip-distance apart. With your right hand, grab hold of your right foot and squeeze it against your right glute. You’ll release your front hip and leg muscles. Then, slowly raise your left hand for help releasing the muscles in your back (and for a boost of balance).

Neck and Shoulder Release

Again, standing with your feet hip-distance apart, clasp your hands behind your back with your arms straight down. Pull your hands down and back as you lean your head back and slightly arch your back. This pose helps release your back and shoulder muscles. You can also try it seated with your feet flat and hip-distance apart on the floor.

Side Stretch

Standing, bring your feet together. Raise your arms above your head and clasp your hands. Bending from the waist, lean slowly to the right and hold for a few seconds. Then repeat on your left side.

Seated Breathing

Sit in your seat with your feet flat on the floor. Rest your hands in your lap and close your eyes (or if you can’t, focus on an object on your desk). Breathe slowly in through your nose and out through your mouth for 5-10 counts. If you can, picture a peaceful scene, such as a beach.

Return to Your Work Rejuvenated

By completing these four easy poses, you can take a few minutes away from your work and return feeling much more relaxed and ready to go.
