How to Recharge Over the Weekend to Ensure a Successful Monday

After a busy week, you’re looking forward to the weekend to rest and recharge. There’s nothing worse than ending your weekend wishing you had more weekends because you were busy, busy, busy! Many of us have been faced with extra stress and anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s important to get a relaxing break at the end of each work week. Relaxing lets you clean your head and refocus your energy. Plus, it’s good for your memory, concentration, focus, and overall well-being.

Five ways to rest and recharge this weekend

So what’s the best way to spend your weekend to help you feel well-rested and ready to tackle your Monday? Try any of the following:

  1. Get enough sleep. This may seem obvious, but many of us try to tackle too much during the weekend in terms of household duties and fun, and personal commitments. When you need to unwind, scheduling too many outings can have the opposite effect, leaving you feeling drained as the weekend winds down. Most people need 6-8 hours of shuteye a night, so make plans to turn in at a reasonable hour and give yourself enough time to rest.
  2. Get some exercise. Getting your heart pumping and your blood flowing can make you feel a lot better, especially if you’ve been stuck inside an office building all week (or your house, if you’re a remote worker). Spend some time working up a sweat at the gym, outside taking a walk or run, playing sports, or even working out with an app or online resource.
  3. Step away from screens. It may feel relaxing to plop yourself in front of Netflix, but this doesn’t give your mind what it needs to recharge. Instead, unplug from TV, streaming services, social media, and the internet. Too much extra stimulation from these sources can be very draining.
  4. Get outside. Breathe in some fresh air and spend some time in nature. Feel the sun on your skin and the wind in your hair as you listen to the sounds, watch animals, feel the fresh air and smell the newly blooming plants and flowers. If you’re allergic, be sure to take your medication before you head out!
  5. Read a book. Let your mind exercise itself in a different way. Reading helps stimulate your imagination, build your vocabulary and improve your mood. Pick up a good book and relax with a few chapters. Just be sure not to read before bed, as it can make it harder to fall asleep.
